My Brain Self-Portrait

Paul Lee

painting on canvas, acrylic and sharpie

At the age of 33, seizures and alexia became the artist’s new normal. It all seemed unreal, speaking was difficult, reading and writing was almost impossible. The plasticity and near-infinite possibilities of the human brain have always fascinated the artist. The piece shown here reflects the reconstruction of the artist’s brain in the wake of his health struggle. Connection are severed, pieces of the brain seem detached. This is how the brain reboots and what pieces it needs to rebuild itself.
